Hearth

Hearth is designed as a multipurpose dining and board gaming table, serving as a gathering point for family and friends, as the fireplace, radio, and television have in the past. The table leaves lift out to unveil a recessed, neoprene lined gaming surface. The perimeter incorporates a rail system which accepts a number of optional gaming accessories, which store on the table legs when not in use. The perimeter of the table is made of tiger maple and rests on legs made of walnut, and African padauk table leaves provide a colorful contrast.

Fun for a family

Intended to bring the family together for a night of fun and board games, Hearth has seating for six. With the leaves in, families are free to eat or do work on the table surface. Once dinner is over, instead of dispersing, the family remains at the table, removing the leaves to reveal a recessed gaming surface. If a game is not quite finished before the night is up, the leaves can be replaced, preserving the game board beneath so the fun can resume later.

Hidden Secret

Denoted only by a padauk dot in the top is a hidden lever underneath the table that gently raises the first table leaf for easy removal.

Accessory Storage

By reducing the support to two inboard legs, there is increased legroom beneath the table. Slats in the two table legs are designed for storing future gaming accessories.

Gaming Area

Hearth features a neoprene lined, recessed gaming area. The recess keeps game components from leaving the table, while the neoprene softens die rolls and makes picking cards up off the gaming surface much less difficult.

Structure

The tabletop is constructed from a perimeter of 4/4 tiger maple surrounding a walnut plywood sheet. The rail system is then attached to the outside and the leaves are set into the top. The tabletop is then keyed into the walnut base.
