Tac-Tiles

Tac-Tiles is a design variant of the classic board game checkers that uses design elements that help visually impaired gamers identify the state of the board and legal actions they can take on their turn. The board features textured tiles that help differentiate between the different colored squares, as well as a fence system that keeps pieces confined to a single space and helps players feel valid moves. Each set of pieces features a drastically different design that helps players identify which pieces belong to each player and also helps keep pieces stacked. Tac-Tiles was designed by Max Harrold, Ian Leighly, and Frank Passi.

Checkers Redesigned

The checkers pieces received a radical redesign for Tac-Tiles. The idea was to makes them as different as possible, using color, shape, and feel. The black piece is a bit larger and features a pyramidal top and harsher edges, whereas the red piece is circular, with a domed top and softer edges. Both have concave bottoms that allow them to be fitted onto like pieces in the event that one is kinged.
